Apple Spiced Mulled Wine

Finally, the days are getting colder and we can rummage for our heavy coat and woollen scarf. This is a cause for celebration because we only get to wear them for 50 days a year. White Christmas is just a fantasy on our sunny island, so cold weather is the next best thing, well sort of. There is nothing more appealing at this time of year than to be welcomed into your home with the smell of mulled wine.

The December Festive Pack includes an Apple Spiced Fruit Tea, (it is actually a tisane) that contains cloves, ginger and dried apple amongst other ingredients. If you are thinking of mince pies right now then you are catching my drift. This tea pairs really well with them but it is also great in mulled wine. A sweet tea infused in red wine is a cup of warm Christmas cheer.

Level: Easy    Servings: 4-6    Prepping Time: 5 mins    Cooking Time: 15 mins

  • 2 tsp Love Tea Apple Spiced Fruit Tea in 80 ml Water
  • 75 cl Syrah
  • Apple Slices
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 2 tbsp Cane Sugar
  • 80 ml Apple Juice (optional)

First brew the tea in hot water according to the guidance on the pouch, and once that is done, in a large pan on low heat put the sugar and make a syrup by adding just a teaspoon of the tea. Add the apple slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise and the apple juice. After only a few minutes, pour the wine in the pan and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Finally, pour in the rest of the tea and let it simmer 5 minutes so that the flavours infuse. Serve warm.
